The system tray

DataTray is a tray-resident app, designed to keep running quietly in the background so it is one click away and the bandwidth exchange can keep the app free.

• Left-click the tray icon to open or focus the main window.
• Right-click for a menu:
  • Open DataTray — show the window.
  • Share idle bandwidth — a checkbox mirroring the setting in Settings. Below it, a non-clickable line states the consequence plainly: Utilities available, or Utilities disabled while sharing is off.
  • Settings… — open the window.
  • Check for updates… — open the window and check for a newer version.
  • Quit DataTray — fully exit the app.

The tray tooltip reads DataTray — sharing or DataTray — sharing off.

Closing vs. quitting — important

• Closing the window (the ✕ button) does not quit the app. It hides the window to the tray and DataTray keeps running. Click the tray icon any time to bring it back.
• Quitting (from the tray menu's Quit DataTray) fully exits the app. Because quitting also stops the bandwidth exchange that keeps DataTray free — and means the app can no longer keep itself up to date or run in the tray — you will be asked to confirm first. The default button on that dialog is Cancel.

Quitting also clears the temporary working files DataTray creates while reading a workbook (see Data Converter).

If something goes wrong here

• Settings… opened the window but not the Settings screen. Known behaviour: the tray item brings the window to the front, and Settings is a top-level item in the sidebar one click away.
• Turning sharing on from the tray did nothing. If the engine refuses to start, DataTray raises a Could not start sharing dialog rather than silently leaving the checkbox unticked. Check that Massive is installed and running, then try again.
• The sharing checkbox is greyed out. The exchange is in the terminal Unavailable state on this machine — see Troubleshooting.
